There’s not much to tell between the two, and it all comes down to availability. ATR2100 (Dynamic: XLR & USB)Īn alternative, and very similar mic, is the ATR2100. This means even if one device crashes or runs out of batteries, you’ve still got a copy of your session. The other benefit of the Q2U’s dual output is that you can easily back up your recordings. Then later on in your journey, when you get yourself an audio interface or a decent digital recorder, you can change to XLR. Or, use that USB mic to run an online call with remote guests. The dual output (XLR & USB) means that you can plug it directly into your computer via USB, recording to Garageband or Audacity. It’s also a significant quality increase over a cheap headset mic or your internal microphone. This is a really versatile little beast, being both XLR and USB. The microphone that I often recommend people start off with is the Samson Q2U. But, I know many a veteran podcaster that still uses this kit, even years down the road. We’ve organised this Best Podcast Mics roundup by cost to make your choice as easy as possible.īudget Level Podcast Microphones for Under $100Ī good podcast microphone can cost hundreds of dollars, but luckily there are a lot of much more affordable options.ĭon’t let the term “ Budget Level” put you off – I only recommend good quality kit! These are relatively cheap, though, and very easy to set up, so they’re well suited for beginners. Here’s our full guide to Condenser Vs Dynamic Mics in Podcasting for a deeper dive on the subject. These are broad generalisations though, and there are always exceptions. Condenser mics, on the other hand, are often capable of recording a more crisp and detailed sound. Dynamic mics are often more durable and can handle high volumes without distortion. Both types of mic have their potential pros and cons. The terms “Condenser” and “Dynamic” refer to two different ways microphones are built, and function. Some podcast microphones actually do both, though, so you can have the best of both worlds! Should I Choose a Dynamic or Condenser Mic? If you buy an XLR mic you’ll need some additional kit (like a USB Audio Interface, Mixer, or Podcast Recorder) to run it into, whilst USB mics work right out of the box. XLR mics are considered to be the more professional, but many USB mics are good enough to go toe-to-toe with them these days. XLR and USB simply refer to the type of cable a mic plugs in with. We update this post periodically to reflect changes in technology, our recommendations, and because we’re always learning new things! Should I Choose an XLR or USB Mic? Our ‘Best Podcast Microphones’ guide was originally written in 2013.

Moneyline bets are particularly popular amongst the betting public during the NCAA tournament, as most bettors prefer not to bet spreads once they get to 25+ points. In the example above, a $100 moneyline bet on Butler (-145) would pay out only $168 whereas a $100 moneyline bet on Marquette (+120) would pay out $220. The juice applied to the bet is adjusted according to the spread, betting an underdog to win outright will pay considerably more than betting the spread whereas betting a favorite to win outright will pay considerably less than betting the spread. You are simply betting on one side to win the game. Moneyline bets are the most basic type of bet you can place. Juice can vary widely from game-to-game and sportsbook-to-sportsbook. A $100 bet on either side will pay out a total of $190.91 or $90.91 in winnings. The number you see under the spread, -110 in this case, is the juice applied to each side of the bet. Alternatively, had you bet on Marquette, they would need to lose by 2 points or less for the bet to cash. Looking at the example above, if were to bet $100 on Butler against the spread (-2.5), they would need to win by at least 3 points in order for your ticket to cash. Spread bets refer to betting against a projected winning margin that is established by the sportsbook. Let's consider the odds for the following game while discussing each bet type: A successful bettor understands how to manage their bankroll and how to avoid bets with more risk than reward. The first step to successfully betting on college basketball is understanding the various bet types available and the pros and cons for each. This simply means those lines will not be available at your sportsbook, and you will still be able to bet on games that don't involve an in-state University. In Illinois, for example, bettors are not allowed to wager on any Illinois college teams. Many US states with legal sports betting have placed restrictions on betting on college sports. Guide to Betting on College Basketball and the 2022 NCAA Tournament The NCAA tournament is 67 games long (including the first four), each game on the 2019 bracket averaged 11.3 million viewers, and the total sports betting handle for the tournament was over $300 million in Vegas alone! You could make the argument that March Madness, in particular, is the single largest betting event of the year. Nevertheless, the start of the 2022 college basketball season will be here before you know it in November. After all, they're busy prepping for the college football and NFL seasons. The graph above shows the pregnancy-related mortality ratios (PRMRs) by urban-rural classifications using the 2013 National Center for Health Statistics Urban-Rural Classification Scheme for Counties. Causes of and risk factors for pregnancy-related deaths between 19 have been published. 7,13 These conditions may put a person at higher risk of complications during pregnancy or in the year postpartum. 7 Studies show that an increasing number of pregnant persons in the United States have chronic health conditions such as hypertension, 8,9 diabetes, 9-12 and chronic heart disease. While the contributions of hemorrhage, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (i.e., preeclampsia, eclampsia), and anesthesia complications to pregnancy-related deaths declined, the contributions of cardiovascular, cerebrovascular accidents, and other medical conditions increased. However, errors in reported pregnancy status on death records have been described, potentially leading to overestimation of the number of pregnancy-related deaths. Identification of pregnancy-related deaths has improved over time due to the use of computerized data linkages between death records and birth and fetal death records by states, changes in the way causes of death are coded, and the addition of a pregnancy checkbox to death records. The reasons for the overall increase in pregnancy-related mortality are unclear. The graph above shows trends in pregnancy-related mortality ratios between 19 (the latest available year of data). Since the Pregnancy Mortality Surveillance System was implemented, the number of reported pregnancy-related deaths in the United States steadily increased from 7.2 deaths per 100,000 live births in 1987 to 17.3 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2018. administer our website and business andĬ. Then, click on the tabs that you want to select one by one. Hold the Ctrl key in Windows or Command key in Mac. To do so, hover your mouse over one of the tabs that you want to select. But, if you want to perform the same action on multiple tabs such as muting, pinning them, or dragging them to a new window, etc., you can select multiple tabs. Typically, we are accustomed to selecting a single tab on Chrome. Then, close the unnecessary ones present on the right side with a single click. Pro Tip: Rearrange the tabs in such a way that the ones that you need are on the left side. For that, right-click on the tab, and select the preferred option. You can either close all other tabs except the one that you are using or close the tabs on the right side of the existing tab. Google Chrome offers multiple ways to close current tabs. Your new tab will be available next to the existing tab. If you want to add it after a certain tab, right-click on that tab and select Add tab to the right. When you create a new tab, it’s mostly added after the existing tabs on the extreme right-hand side. For that, right-click on the tab and select Mute site. Instead of muting your entire computer, you can mute individual tabs. Sometimes, when you open a site, it starts playing audio out of nowhere. A new tab with the same link will open next to the existing tab. Simply, right-click on the tab and select Duplicate. If you want to open multiple instances of the same tab, you don’t need to open the website again. To unpin it, right-click it again and select Unpin. To pin a tab, right-click on it and select Pin. That’s because pinned tabs are minimized and kept separately at the left corner. Similarly, if you want to save space on the title bar of Chrome, you can pin your tabs. When you pin a tab and close Chrome, the pinned tabs will be there when you reopen Chrome. Pinning tabs comes handy if certain tabs are always open on your Chrome or you need them frequently. Click on Switch to this tab to jump to that tab. Instead of opening each tab, you can type the name of the website or the URL in the search box, and Chrome will show the site in suggested URLs. Search for Open TabsĪt times, we tend to have multiple tabs open, and it becomes difficult to find the one that we need. Then, drag the tab from the existing window to anywhere on the title bar of the preferred Chrome window. If you want to move a tab between two Chrome windows, open both the windows and keep them side by side or one over the other. Pro Tip: Find out how to open the current tab in Incognito mode in Chrome. You will see a new window will open with the existing tab. What if you want to open a current tab in a new window? To open a link in a new tab, we usually right-click on it and select the New tab option. That is, select the tabs and then drag them. Tip: You can rearrange multiple tabs by using the multiple selection tab trick mentioned below. For that, hover your mouse over the tab and hold the left mouse button. You can change its position and keep it next to similar tabs. But for people who are unaware, when you open a tab, it doesn’t mean it’s stuck at that position. Pro Tip: Use this shortcut multiple times to open other previously closed tabs. Find out how to restore tabs after a restart. If remembering the shortcuts isn’t your cup of coffee, simply right-click anywhere on a space on Chrome’s title bar. To do so, use the Ctrl + Shift + T (Windows) or Command + Shift + T (Mac) shortcut. Chrome offers simpler ways to reopen the recently closed tabs. Sure, you can check your Chrome history and open it from there, but that’s a long way to go about it. Reopen Recently Closed TabĪ lot of times, we accidentally hit the cross (close) button on a tab, thus closing it. Let’s check the useful Google Chrome tab tips and tricks for Windows. It’s good information even for savvy color management users. In the same sense, using room light adjustment is recommended only for desktop users.Īll screens have an interactive help sidebar. For example, current Apple laptops all have white LED backlight, so the software doesn’t need any user input to select it. Some display types are also detected automatically. For example, if you choose laptop on the setup screen, it knows that you only have brightness controls available. Spyder5 software is wizard based and intelligent enough to show and hide functions depending on your display type. I assume this was done to limit piracy, since the only difference between the cheapest Express and the Elite versions is software. Software download and installation is straightforward, but requires internet access to generate an activation code that ties the hardware serial number to the software. All platforms, including Linux, can use the free dispcalGUI and Argyll CMS open source package. It works very well, with no discernible changes in measurements even when pointing a bright LED flashlight directly to the sensor.ĭatacolor Spyder5 works on both Mac (OS X versions 10.7 to 10.10) and Windows (versions 7, 8 and 8.1) computers. The new sensor also has an updated baffle design that uses a deeper honeycomb pattern in order to eliminate any stray light influence on the measurements. In the end I opted to leave a reasonable loop of cable between the cap and the main unit so I don’t have to adjust it every time. My fear is that doing this multiple times can cause the cable to fail. What I didn’t like in my testing is that the cap/counterweight fits very snugly on the USB cable, and you have to pull it with more force than I’m comfortable with in order to adjust its position. This updated design is elegant, compact and works well. This was a very common problem, for example, with the old X-Rite Eye One Display 2 and other colorimeters of that generation. When closed, this cap protects the color filters inside the unit from overexposure to light, which can degrade them and lessen the unit’s accuracy. The colorimeter now has a more compact design with an integrated protective cap that doubles as a counterweight. Profiles generated with the new Spyder5 sensor have a little bit more shadow detail and less banding, comparing favorably to the X-Rite i1Display Pro, which is arguably one of the best on the market. The improvement is very apparent when you compare it to previous versions and also reflects in a faster calibration time, since the updated unit can get a precise measurement in less time than its predecessors. The updated Spyder5 sensor features a new 7-color matrix that is claimed to offer up to 55% improvement in tonal response, especially in the shadows. One of the biggest criticisms of the Spyder3 and Spyder4 colorimeters was that measurement performance was not so great on the darker tones. Spyder4 focused on measurement precision and less unit-to-unit variance. The Spyder3, for example, was the first consumer grade colorimeter that worked fine with wide gamut displays. I appreciate the fact that they move fast and listen closely to the market demands. I’ve used all versions of it, from the original Spyder, back when the company was still called Colorvision, to this latest 5th generation. How to choose the best monitor for photo editing: what specs really matter.ĭatacolor has been improving their sensor design for more than a decade. For example, if you have custom color profiles for your LCD display and photo printer, Adobe Lightroom can understand their differences and match their output as closely as possible, or simulate the printer output on your screen. These profiles are also used to match colors between other color managed devices. The resulting color profile is used by your operating system and any color managed program to adjust its output, making sure that what you see is as similar as possible to other displays, given their intrinsic differences. The same logic applies not only for photographers, but also for users in other fields that require consistent color - for example, web, graphic and product design. Calibrating your display ensures that what you see is consistent from day to day and also follows a known standard. Your images or designs can vary wildly on color from one display to another, and even more during printing, where any misstep can represent a big waste of money. An uncalibrated screen is an unknown variable. It’s the only interaction between photographer and the image after its inception on the camera. Your display is the starting point of your digital darkroom. Everyone who interacts with color should work on a properly calibrated display. For those skeptical about synchronization, there is a simulation mode that lets you see what files would be modified, just so you can see what files would be changed and alter the settings to get your desired effect. No worrying about which files I need to overwrite or forgetting to delete an unused file - Transmit's got my back. With synchronization, I can locally edit my K2 folder for a redesign, for example, without any internet as the campus connection is prone to such misfortune and when I regain a connection, sync the folders. I've already used this for keeping a sync'd copy of my K2 theme folder on my desktop, which I'm always editing. The latter feature, synchronization, gives you a plethora of options and settings for maintaining two identical folders on your local machine and server. I'm always opening things in SubEthaEdit and editing them on the fly and now with the added perk of doing this with Photoshop there's no reason to look back. This is a fantastic feature that I'll be using for a long time. Once you hit "Save" in Photoshop, Transmit will automatically upload the file back to the server! Take what Cabel from Panic told me for example: For example, you can right click a ".gif", choose "Edit in Photoshop", and Transmit will download the file and open it in Photoshop. The cool part about this is that it's compatible with images. Similar to how you can right-click any file in OS X and open with the application of your choice, "Edit in Whatever" lets you edit any file, local or remote, in literally whatever application you wish. Now I would like to dwell a bit on the two new features that rank high in my books: Edit in Whatever and Synchronization. Right-click the folder of your choosing and select Save Droplet for Folder to use this feature. Create a droplet for your most used folder, place it somewhere convenient and drag files/folders on top of it to easily put them on your server. Transmit also grabs the favicons from each server you connect to that's some amazing attention to detail.Īnother great feature of 3.5 is a little wonder called droplets. Oh and did I mention it supports Column view! I'm a big fan of tabs as well - no need to open a second instance of Transmit to access your other server, as you have to do with many other FTP clients. This drawer eliminates the need for a right-click to find out simple file info. The information is also accompanied with a nifty preview box, which even displays images. Meanwhile, the drawer on the right, dubbed Preview, gives you the information for any currently selected file or folder local or remote. The one on the left, called sidebar, adds Finder functionality allowing you to easily find any file you might want to put on your server. The first thing will notice is a drawer on the left and another on the right. If you've ever used another FTP application such as Cyberduck or Fugu, you won't have any problem adapting to Transmit. Everything is where you would expect it to be. Transmit excels when it comes to the application's user interface. In addition to various bug fixes version 3.5 ushers in things universal binary support so you can run it on your latest Intel-powered Mac and indulge in the inclusion of some great new features. Things like dashboard integration with a simple drag and drop widget, local smart folders, bookmark syncing, automated workflows and more. Transmit has won several awards and most recently an Apple Design Award for using Tiger technology the most. Transmit is avaiable PPC, 68k, and FAT binary, which means it will work optimally for both PPC and 68k machines. If you are a mac user with any need for an FTP application, you have no doubt heard of Panic's Transmit. This is the ultimate FTP program for the macintosh, the one we've been waiting for. I never get this excited about a program before, its just that this program is chocked full of features and so speedy you have to try to believe.Īlthough this program is not shareware or freeware (its commercial software), the authors haven't disabled its functions in any way, they only ask for you to purchase the software for a nominal price of $24.95. I'm uploading the files listed below through Transmit as I'm typing up this page. It is completely engineered towards Mac OS 8 and even looks a whole lot better than any FTP program I've ever seen. Transmit sports a interface similar to the site hierarchy of Golive Cyberstudio. Although many people use Fetch for FTP, I stongly suggest that you switch to Transmit. |
